Following his second arrest this offseason, the Bears have decided they’ve had enough. The Bears released the former #4 overall pick today.

Less than two months ago, Benson was arrested was boating while intoxicated. On Saturday, he was popped for drunk driving. He didn’t exactly shine on the field either. The Bears frustrations with Benson were noted, as he didn’t show flashes worthy of him being the #4 overall pick in 2005.

Today, Benson showed up for OTA’s and was immediately told by Lovie Smith to leave the facility and to go home.

Could this put the Bears in a position to make a play for free agent Shaun Alexander? We’ll see.
