This hasn’t been a good day for the New York Giants. First, their championship rings were stolen, now another star player is complaining.
According to ESPN.com, WRÂ Plaxico Burress, who caught the winning touchdown of Superbowl 42, wants a new contract with the Giants, and he won’t practice with the team until they give him one. He reported to the team’s practice on Wednesday but wouldn’t work out. Coach Tom Coughlin insists he’s not practicing because of a knee injury, but Burress claimed he’s fine.
The Giants need to pay their vets. While it may be true that the Giants won a championship practically without Shockey, the same wouldn’t be said with Burress. The Giants may hold the leverage, but don’t have enough proven talent to let Burress hold out. We suspect he’ll eventually show up to practice, but the Giants better hope no other vets open their mouths, for atleast this off season.
