Just six months after radio host Don Imus made his infamous comments about the Rutgers ladies basketball team, he was under fire again today, after making racial comments regarding Adam “Pacman” Jones and his criminal history. Here’s what he said initially, an excerpt from a report:
During a conversation about Jones’ run-ins with the law, Imus asked, “What color is he?” Sports announcer Warner Wolf said Jones—formerly known as Pacman—is “African-American.” Imus responded: “There you go. Now we know.”
Imus though says his comments were misunderstood. He said he was “trying to make a sarcastic point” and that everyone screws up once. He claims the criticism surrounding this is “ridiculous” considering his show includes a black producer and two black co-hosts.
Jones claims he was offended by the comments and added this:
“Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I will pray for him.”
Good ol’ Don, just can’t stay away from controversial topics, even after pledging to step away from the limelight of the national media. I’m sure this isn’t the end of this story, so as anything progresses, we’ll report back.
