After their attempt to find a trading partner for RB Najeh Davenport failed, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally decided to give up and cut him, ESPN.com reports. Even though Davenport rushed for 499 yards, a career high, last season after starter Willie Parker was injured, the Steelers were disappointed in his playoff performance (16 carries, 25 yards) and subsequently drafted Illinois RB Rashard Mendenhall, thought to be the best pure RB in this year’s draft class. The writing was on the wall for Najeh then but not to worry; he should catch on with another team, as he provides quality depth with starting experience.
