According to a report by USA Today, the NFL cancelled the 2008 Supplemental draft, originally scheduled for next week, due to a lack of interest. The memo was sent out to all 32 teams informing them of the announcement. 49ers GM confirmed it by reiterating that no one applied at the time of the deadline. This comes as a surprise since the Supp. draft has taken place since 1977, with a total of 37 total players selected. Some notable names to come out of this annual event? Cris Carter, Bernie Kosar, and Brian Bosworth, to name a few.
So players like USC’s Rey Maualuga and Mississippi State’s Michael Brown will have to wait until the real thing in April 2009.
