
One of the biggest keys to the 3-4 defense, the type that the Chargers employ, are the defensive ends. Well, today, San Diego just retained a key defensive end for the foreseeable future, as Luis Castillo agreed to a five-year, $43.1 million contract extension that will keep him with the Bolts through 2014. Castillo also received $18 million guaranteed in the new deal, making him the sixth-highest paid defensive lineman in the league.
Castillo, who has started 33 games since being drafted in 2005, posted his best season in 2006 with seven sacks.
