Brett Favre, in an effort to move things along, will report to Packers training camp, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. Also, the New York Jets have received permission to talk to Favre, joining the likes of the Tampa Bay Bucs as the teams expressing interest in the retired QB. Favre wants a release from his contract with the Pack, which expires in 2010, but the team has no intention of doing such a thing. The next step, presumably, is Favre applying for reinstatement, which could happen today. UPDATE: Coach Mangini didn’t outright deny interest in Favre, as he did previously. Could Favre-to-Jets happen? We’ll see.

Commissioner Goodell has reportedly reached out to Favre, claiming he’d assist him in his endeavor to play this year. The team and Favre are still weighing possible trade scenarios. As previously reported, the team is nearing a trade agreement in which they’d present Favre with a list of teams vying for his services and then he’d choose where he’d like to go. Stay tuned for more!
