In what would be probably the Jets 4th or 5th biggest signing this offseason, and that’s saying something, NY sports-radio station WFAN is reporting, through team sources, that the Jets and John Lynch are close to agreeing on a deal.
That’s not where the story ends. Earlier in training camp, the Patriots signed Lynch with the hopes he’d provide some much needed depth and leadership to their ailing secondary. Turns out he wasn’t in New England’s long term plans as they cut him yesterday. The Jets signing him would be no surprise since they reportedly made a serious play for him before the Pats got to him first.
Also, escalating the Pats/Jets rivalry, each team seems to have a tradition of going through each other’s “trash”, by signing players who were cut and then cutting them a week later. The reason for that is all gamesmanship, trying to gain a strategic advantage over the other team. It’s almost comical at times, when 7th round and undrafted players keep going back and forth between the teams.
Sorry for the long hiatus, real life got in the way. I intend to try to start this up again. That’s all for now.
