It’s a tradition on the H2H message board started by a poster that I thought would make for good reading, so I’ll give it a shot on a weekly basis. Basically, it’s just a simple list of five things that went on during the NFL games. I’ll gather the best 5 that were posted and throw it up on here for you all to see. Call it an opinion piece, if you will, but it’s pretty interesting to gather different fan’s opinions on what they think on the happenings around the league. Enough with the weak intro, here’s Week 1′s Five Things:
1) The Steelers, not the Jags nor the Chargers, are the main threat to the Pats and Colts in the AFC. They’re loaded on offense and with the infusion of Woodley and Timmons, they now have the best LB corps in the NFL and the best group they’ve had since Lloyd/Brown/Kirkland/Greene.
2) Atlanta looks to have some good building blocks in place for the future. Ryan had limited passing opportunities, but didn’t look bad. Turner was incredible, though I still think the jury is out on what workload he can handle (can he really handle 20+ carries per game for a full season?). Congrats to Falcons fans… it looks like there might be a light at the end of your tunnel after all.
3) The Bills were good, but not as good as the score showed. Their offense never really scared me, and I think their Special Teams won the game for them. They were responsible for 27 of their points (They caused Josh Wilson’s fumble, which lead to the Trent Edwards TD one play after). Their defense was goo5) The Colts will be fine. Manning obviously didn’t have his sea legs last night. He still might not be right for a couple of weeks. What should be a little disturbing for Colts fans is their defense’s inability to stop what most people feel is an anemic offense. However, a part of that goes back to the Colts O for not sustaining drives. They’ll hit their stride sooner than later and will be a team to be reckoned with.d, but when Seattle finally got into a rhythm late in the first half, they looked bad. They might have a chance to win the east with Brady out for the season, but their Special Teams have to play as good as it did against the Hawks if they want to succeed this year.
4) The perception of the AFC’s balance of power just got the hell shifted out of it. The Colts and Chargers are both 0-1. The Pats are down 1 All-Pro QB. And the Steelers just pulled a classic woodshed beating on a team some were calling a darkhorse. Of course things are going to change over the course of the season, but if you can find someone who is able to prove they expected Week 1 to shake out like this, take them lottery-ticket shopping with you.
5) Regardless of all the above, it is still just week 1 of a 17 week season. High hopes will be deflated, teams will rise from ashes, good teams will get better, bad ones will not and others will get worse.
What are YOUR Five Things that you think you know? Come share with us, we’d love to hear them. Until next week…
