With speculation arising that Redskins RB Clinton Portis may join the unemployment line, like fellow running backs Ladanian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook have recently, new Skins coach Mike Shanahan (that feels weird to type) killed that speculation today.
Speaking to Foxsports.com’s Alex Marvez and NFL.com’s Gil Brandt on Sirius NFL Radio, Shanny stated, “He’s our running back”. Comforting news for a 29-year old, oft-injured running back, though don’t forget they go back to their days in Denver together so Shanahan of all people knows what Portis is capable of and what he might have left in him.
Even with this news, I think Portis will have competition as the Skins will probably look to the draft to infuse some youth and speed into their backfield.
