The Steelers have been trying to fill the void left when they let safety Ryan Clark hit free-agency. With him looking to sign with another team, Pittsburgh set their sights on his replacement.
His replacement (for now) is Will Allen.
ESPN is reporting the former Tampa Bay Buc will sign a three-year deal with the Steelers today. Allen already knows coach Mike Tomlin when they had worked together in Tampa, so this sort-of makes sense.
I don’t believe this is an end-all-be-all replacement for Clark. Allen lost his starting job in Tampa and doesn’t look quite like starting material. Expect Pittsburgh to draft a couple of safeties this April.
