Jeff Garcia hasn’t completed a game time pass in the NFL since December 12, 2008. Now at 40, and without a team, Garcia thinks he can contribute and he’s looking for an opportunity.
In an interview with The Tampa Tribune, Garcia shared his current state of mind:
“I feel like I’m as healthy and as young-feeling and as active as I’ve ever been,” Garcia said. “Now it’s just a matter of somebody wanting to give me that opportunity to come in and have a positive affect in the locker room.
“I think that’s something I really want to be able to do and for people to understand that I’m not at all that type of person at all that is going to come in and disrupt the team chemistry or the energy. I want to come in and be supportive and be a part of something positive.”
There’s some buzz that the Giants are interested in Garcia as a backup to Eli Manning. With the Giants recent signing of FA QB Jim Sorgi (Peyton Manning’s previous backup in Indy) that would put Garcia, Sorgi and Rhett Bomar left to battle for position on the depth chart. A better fit might be just a few miles away with the Jets. Mark Sanchez could only benefit with a mentor like Garcia around. If I’m Rex Ryan, I’m making a few calls.
