Former free-agent WR Derrick Mason doesn’t have to find a new home. He’s staying in Baltimore.
The Ravens and Mason agreed to a new 2 year, $8 million contract that includes $3.5 million in the first year, reports ESPN (Adam Schefter). This likely means the 36 year-old will end his career a Raven. Although, Mason has had himself a nice career in Baltimore. He’s as reliable and solid as they come – and probably has these two years of optimum play left in his body.
With the arrival of Anquan Boldin, Mason is now the clear-cut no. 2 receiver, with Boldin likely to take some red-zone looks away from him as well. His numbers will be down, but I think he has two 1,000+ yards, 8-10 TD seasons in the tank.
Another prediction: That Ravens offense will rank among the top-10 this upcoming season. Between Flacco (in a typical crucial third-year), Rice, McClain, Boldin, Mason, and Heap, they should put up some serious points. This statement will be fun to re-visit in about 10 months time though, for sure.
