in Chicago Bears

After his recent farewell message on Twitter, it was obvious the divorce between the Chicago Bears and defensive end Alex Brown was coming soon.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Brown is expected to be released today.

Can’t fault the Bears for not trying. They put him on the trade block last week and were unable to find any takers. Unwilling to take on his $5 million base salary for this season, the Bears were left with no choice but to cut the 31-year old veteran.

Brown, entering his eighth season, thinks he still has plenty left in the tank:

“I believe I can play four or five more years, I mean good years,” he said. “Shoot, over the last four, five years I have been so close to having the magical number everyone looks for as far as sacks (10). As far as what I have been doing, I’m in my prime still.”
