Big D underwent some serious spring cleaning today.
The Cowboys released offensive tackle Flozell Adams and safety Ken Hamlin, both of which were starters and former Pro Bowlers.
Adams, who has been with Dallas for 12 seasons, started falling off last season and it prompted owner Jerry Jones to start looking in a different direction. Due a $2.5 million roster bonus in June, coupled with his 2010 base salary of $5 million, Adams was an obvious candidate to be cut.
Hamlin signed a six-year, $39 million contract extension following the 2007 season in which he originally signed with Dallas and made the Pro Bowl with 102 tackles and 5 interceptions. Since then, he’s had just one takeaway in his last two seasons, and with a $5.5 million base salary this season it was no surprise that he was let go.
Hamlin had this to say via his Twitter:
I would like to say to all of my fans that I appreciate all the love that you have showed me in Dallas. It was a good run….. Thanks
Doug Free and Alan Ball are the current in-house options to replace Adams and Hamlin, respectively.
