in NFL Draft, St. Louis Rams

Sam Bradford

It should come as no surprise to anybody that these days first-round draft picks get paid….a lot. Especially the number one overall player, a quarterback. Knowing that, this year’s projected numbers for Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford are still outrageous.

Sources tell ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter that Bradford will likely command a contract that pays him $13 million annually, with “roughly” $50 million guaranteed. Schefter notes this was based on the deals in the past two drafts that Matt Ryan and Matthew Stafford received as quarterbacks going first overall.

The consensus is the St. Louis Rams, sitting pretty at numero uno, will select Bradford. However, they’re not expected to have a deal in place with him in place before the draft kicks off next Thursday.

I still can’t wrap my mind around those numbers though. Bradford, a 22-year old fresh out of college, will inherit a cool 50 mill guaranteed having never played a single down in the NFL. Though this is life, after-all, without a rookie pay scale.
