Trades involving three or more parties are rare in the NFL. Today, one of those rarities has occured.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news of a three-team deal that includes Philadelphia, Detroit, and Denver. Tight-end Tony Scheffler heads to the Lions, linebacker Ernie Sims to the Eagles, while Denver receives the Eagles 5th-round draft pick. Detroit also has the Broncos’ seventh-rounder coming to them as apart of this pact.
Detroit acquires another receiving threat to help quarterback Matthew Stafford. Scheffler is a dynamic tight-end; he can catch-and-run with the ball quite well, picking up good YAC. It’s also a nice insurance policy for them if Brandon Pettigrew suffers any setbacks after his surgery to correct a torn ACL.
Philly adds young depth to its line-backing corps with Sims (only 25-years-old), who could potentially open up the season as the starter at WLB. The former ninth-overall pick in the ’06 draft, Sims has 396 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one interception for his career.
