It’s obvious draft week is upon us. With only 48 hours to go until the big day, teams usually try to wheel and deal and finagle picks for under-performers.

The Cowboys and Jets are doing just that.

According to Mike Lombardi, of the National Football Post, Gang Green is looking to part with three veterans while the ‘Boys have listed five that are up for grabs.

For NY, DE Shaun Ellis, LB Bryan Thomas, and LG Alan Faneca are actively being shopped around by the team. If no takers can be found before/during the draft, they might be released outright. As a Jets fan, the only name that bothers me is Ellis’.

While he is certainly no spring chicken, Ellis is the most tenured Jets on the roster and always brings his A-game every Sunday. Faneca is owed a $7.5 million base salary and has strugged in run-blocking while Thomas has disappointed, save for the 2006 season.

The Cowboys are looking to find new homes for DE Marcus Spears, LB Bobby Carpenter, WR Sam Hurd, safety Pat Watkins, and OL Cory Procter. Out of the bunch, Spears and Carpenter have the most market value; they will probably be the first to go and for late-round picks.

While this hasn’t been confirmed elsewhere, this report should be taken with a grain of salt. We’ll see what transpires over the next few days.
