in Houston Texans

There was no doubt in my mind that when Alan Faneca was unceremoniously dumped by the Jets that he’d drum up interest…and quickly. So quickly, in fact, it only took one day.

John McClain, Texans beat-reporter for the Houston Chronicle, writes that Houston has shown interest in the perennial Pro Bowl guard.

“I think everybody in football’s going to be interested in him,” coach Gary Kubiak said today. “We’re going to check him out to see what he’s interested in doing at this stage of his career, what direction he’s headed.”

The 33-year old veteran is still due to receive $5.25 million from the Jets this season. So Faneca’s next team, be it the Texans or whomever, won’t have to shell out a boatload of dollars to acquire his services.

While Faneca is clearly on the downside of his possible Hall of Fame career, he can still make a considerable difference in run blocking; just not so much when it comes to pass protection.
