Brett Favre - NFC Championship Game

Breaking news that Brett Favre has been notified he’ll need ankle surgery before he plays, IF he plans on returning to the Vikings for 2010.

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Favre is currently weighing his options; he can either get the procedure done or call it quits, for good, after 19 long seasons.

During the NFC Championship game, Favre and his ankle got pretty banged up and the pictures of his ankle had us cringing. If it were a ‘new’ injury, it might be an easy decision for the future Hall of Famer, but this left ankle has had surgery twice before – in 2007 and in 1995.

Steve Mariucci has talked with Favre recently and reports that the ankle is still swollen, three months after the injury against the Saints. This new development will dissolve the assumption that Favre will return for a 20th season. In October, Favre turns 41 years old. It’s taking him longer to heal and his ankle seems to be telling him it’s time to let go.
