After being released by the Raiders, quarterback JaMarcus Russell has a long road ahead of him if he wants a shot with another NFL squad. Many thought he would be wise to play in the Arena Football League or Canadian Football League, both looked at as the NFL’s developmental leagues of sorts.
That won’t be the case, however, as Russell has “no plans to attempt a comeback” in either league, NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora writes.
Arguably the biggest bust in NFL history, Russell is working out and keeping himself in shape; preparing as if he’ll be playing in the NFL in 2010. Though a few teams did contact him, he would likely have to compete just to make a team, and even then it would be in a backup, or third string, capacity.
No one is denying his natural talent, a gift that Russell was born with. Many question his passion for the game, his work ethic, and his leadership – all of which led to his long overdue pink-slip from Oakland.
