Matt Schaub might have to go to camp this summer without his (second) favorite target.

Nick Scurfield, of HoustonTexans.com, is reporting that tight end Owen Daniels, coming off of ACL surgery, will ‘likely not participate‘ in training camp.

Daniels tore his ACL on November 1 of last season in a game against the Bills. That was the third such ACL tear, so he’d have to be eased back in slowly without suffering a setback that could jeopardize his promising career.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak sounded, at least, a little optimistic toward Daniels’ outlook, saying he’s ‘way ahead of schedule‘, and could join the team in non-contact, 7-on-7 drills.

I won’t attempt to play doctor but, much like New England’s Wes Welker, Daniels suffered such a debilitating injury so late in the season that it wouldn’t shock me to see him placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list to open up the 2010-2011 campaign.
