There’s good news and bad news for NFL agents. The good news is that Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss is minus an agent. The bad news is it doesn’t look like he’ll require one going forward.

According to the Boston Globe, Moss dumped his longtime agent, Tim DiPiero, today.

In a statement released by DiPiero, he confirmed the news and revealed that Moss plans on playing out the duration of his career without representation.

“Randy has talked to me for a while about finishing his career without an agent and recently told me that as a veteran entering his 13th season, he no longer believed he needs an agent,” wrote DiPiero. “He told me he would be sending me official notice of his decision, which he did last week.

“It has been a privilege representing him all these years and to have had a close-up view as we all watched a high school kid, who was this incredible ‘phenom’ grow into a man and one of the greatest NFL players of all time. What has been most satisfying is to see him give back to our local community, especially the kids. Randy has a soft spot for kids and when he does things for them, he does it for the right reasons. I will continue to catch him on TV each Sunday and root for him to get a ring before he retires.”

While it’s certainly a bold move by the future Hall of Fame receiver, it could prove to be a boneheaded one as Moss is set to become a free-agent in 2011; likely his last chance at elite money.

Getting that sort of compensation at 34-years old was a daunting task even with an agent. There’s a good chance Moss will be kicking himself this time next year for letting DiPiero go.
