Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is absent from the team’s organized team activities today, according to Jeffrey McLane of the Philadelphia Enquirer.
No reason has been given by the team except “they’re voluntary”, which obviously doesn’t clarify things at all.
Jackson, much like Chris Johnson, Darrelle Revis, and some other high-profile players, is underpaid. He’s currently scheduled to make only $470,000 this season.
For months now, D-Jax has tried to get Philadelphia’s front-office to nix his rookie contract and sign him to a new deal, one that pays him like an elite receiver in the league, which he’s established himself as. They haven’t budged on it, so Jackson’s going to use the only leverage he has by skipping these voluntary workouts.
Whether or not this lingers into training camp is unknown at this point but the Eagles should just show him the money and take care of their most explosive weapon on offense, and maybe the entire team.
