DT Albert Haynesworth didn’t report to the Washington Redskins two-day mandatory minicamp and has now been fined $10K by the team. Count that towards the $21M Washington is trying to recoup from the guaranteed option bonus Haynesworth received April 1st. I’ll side step the obvious April Fools joke.

Albert Haynesworth

Here’s the skinny. Washington celebrates an offseason “win” by signing the Pro Bowler to a rich seven year deal. The defensive scheme starts coming to light and Haynesworth realizes he’s going to anchor the line in a 3-4 formation. He drops a “Heck no!” Why? It’s a less than glamorous role and his sack totals would all but dry up. Its seems as though he cares more about his fantasy value than his value to his team. He wants a trade and Washington is working towards offloading him.

With that huge bonus out of the way, Haynesworth becomes a potentially good deal, financially speaking. His salary is just $5.4M for 2011 and $6.7M for 2012. Seattle and Oakland have been mentioned as potential suitors; there will be others. Wherever he lands, he has some character rebuilding to do. Acting like a spoiled six year old because you can’t be a sack monster is not endearing.
