Cedric Benson sparked, and likely saved, his career by signing with the Bengals in 2008. Soon, he could find himself staying in Cincy for awhile longer.
According to the Dayton Daily News, the representatives for Benson have approached the team about a contract extension. Though there has been no timetable set on when it’d get done, the Bengals are open to the idea of extending the running back.
Benson, who was labeled as a bust in Chicago after three disappointing years, signed with Cincinnati in late 2008. It wasn’t until last year that he had his best season of his career (by far), rushing for 1,251 yards and scoring six touchdowns in just 13 games. He also set a Bengals franchise record by rushing for 100 yards or more six times.
Still only 27-years old, Benson should have a lot left in the tank since he wasn’t used much in Chicago. If he could stay healthy in 2010, another big season could/should be within reach for the former Texas Longhorn.
