After making his rounds as a free-agent, free safety O.J. Atogwe decided it’d be best to stay with the team that drafted him half a decade ago.
According to multiple reports, the Rams and Atogwe have agreed to a five-year contract extension today. The terms of the deal are unknown, but it’s expected to pay him about $5 million annually.
Atogwe, who became an unrestricted free-agent three weeks ago, thinks it was crucial to stay in St. Louis.
“It’s really important to stay here. One of the things I was thinking about through this process is my purpose with the Rams.”
It’s believed that no other team was serious about making a play for Atogwe, though the Vikings and Lions showed some (preliminary) interest. The Rams, far and away, wanted him back the most, as he didn’t make a visit anywhere else.
The 29-year old will ensure some stability remains in an otherwise lackluster secondary.
