Three teams interested in pursuing Vincent Jackson?

Vincent Jackson

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that three teams, the Redskins, Seahawks, and Bears, have “debated making a run” at Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson. Although Schefter cautions that a trade is still a “longshot”, interest in the disgruntled Pro Bowler is starting to pick up steam.

V-Jax is not expected to attend training camp in a hold out that could extend into the regular season. Both want new contracts and can’t be happy that their salaries have reportedly been slashed after declining to sign their tenders.

If any of these three teams decides to trade for him, they have to be prepared to issue a new long-term contract and possibly multiple high-round draft picks to San Diego. Jackson certainly has the skill and youth to make it a worthwhile trade but my opinion might be in the minority.

In Chicago, he’d instantly become the number one in Mike Martz’ offense and quarterback Jay Cutler would probably do cart wheels should they acquire him. Same goes for Donovan McNabb in Washington.

I wonder, though, how T.J. Houshmandzadeh would feel about Jackson coming aboard in Seattle. After all, they’ve already linked themselves heavily to another big time receiver earlier in the year.

This is a situation that bares watching while we’re stuck in the slowest part of the NFL offseason.

UPDATE: Jason La Canfora reports that, although San Diego won’t deal him in the near future, Seattle is in the best position to make a move for Jackson.
