Michael Vick
In the wake of Michael Vick’s birthday party shooting, the Eagles are considering releasing the troubled QB. It’s a sad turn of events. Vick had seemingly turned his life around after serving jail time after pleading guilty to federal charges in relation to illegal dog fighting through his Bad Newz Kennels. In August of 2009, the Philadelphia Eagles took Vick under their wing and created an environment where Vick to start rebuilding his life and career. The impact he made on his teammates was substantial, as they voted him the recipient of their “Ed Block Courage Award” in December of that season.
In the early morning hours of Friday, June 25th, Vick left a club where he had been attending a party in honor of his 30th birthday. Minutes later, at that same club, Quanis Phillips was shot and taken to the hospital. Phillips was a co-defendant in Vick’s dog fighting case. Vick had been ordered by the court to no longer associate with any of the individuals involved with case. Vick’s brother, Marcus Vick, who has his own laundry list of legal troubles, was also at the party and had been advertising the event on Twitter.
Was Vick involved in the shooting? Who knows. He left less than three minutes before Phillips was shot. At the very least, he has shown he is not yet ready to make responsible decisions. The Eagles might have no other choice than to let Vick walk. They can’t afford to absorb the repercussions of his legal problems and Vick needs to suffer more consequences from his actions.
*** UPDATE: The Eagles are denying the validity of this claim. Don’t believe their denial.
