Ravens Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed has done a complete 180 since the end of the 2009 season, from contemplating calling it quits to deciding that he wants to rip up his contract and start anew.

According to Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun, Reed has contacted the team about the possibility of a new deal; doing so with three-years remaining on the six-year pact he agreed to in 2006.

“I’m not making it a big deal,” Reed said on The Norris and Davis Show. “[But] I think it needs to be taken care of.”

A Ravens spokesman declined to respond to this report.

Reed, in an interview with 105.7 The Fan, based his new request on the fact that his level of play hasn’t changed, while he points out that other safeties such as Ken Hamlin, who signed with Baltimore this offseason, and Roy Williams have figuratively fallen off.

On top of all this, Reed admitted in the interview that he could miss a chunk of the regular season.

“I believe with the hip, it could be a realistic thing where it could be October, November and December,” Reed said. “We don’t know. It’s going to be dependent on how I feel and what have I done to get back into full-throttle game shape.”

If he truly expects to get his new found wish, Reed better make it onto the field sooner rather than later.
