Sad story out of Washington today involving a probable starter on the offensive line.
According to the Washington Post, offensive lineman Mike Williams is expected to miss the entire 2010 season due to blood clots near his heart. It might get worse, as some in the Redskins organization are concerned that this might be a career-threatening condition.
Williams, who was expected to start at right guard, has not taken a snap in the NFL since 2006. The fourth-overall pick in the 2002 draft, he spent his first four seasons in Buffalo and was regarded as somewhat of a bust after failing to impress at either tackle position.
Taking several years off to run an oil business in Texas, Williams signed with the ‘Skins in 2009. After moving to guard, he re-ignited his career and looked to have a future at that position, which earned him a two-year contract extension in March. Only 30-years old, he had quality years left in him and looked to have locked that spot down for the foreseeable future.
It’s a shame a guy who has done all the right things has to suffer a setback like this. Here’s hoping this doesn’t end his career and Williams can get back on the field as soon as possible.
