Dez Bryant

Josh Ellis of DallasCowboys.com is reporting that rookie receiver Dez Bryant rolled his right ankle while fighting for a pass in practice today. Apparently, the ankle had been taped as it was bothering him the last few days.

Although Bryant needed the assistance of the trainers to get off the field, he was seen standing and putting some weight on it in the locker room.

Bryant is scheduled to undergo an MRI, but this is obviously a setback in what is otherwise an excellent start to training camp — minus the shoulder pad fiasco — for the 24th overall pick.

UPDATE: The team fears Bryant has a high ankle sprain. If so, he’d likely miss a good portion of training camp.

UPDATE 2: Right high-ankle sprain is confirmed. He will be out four to six weeks, which means he’ll miss all of training camp and possibly all of the preseason. Some pretty bad luck right there.

“It was really disappointing and it really causes you to … ask what can you do, what can you do in practices that can mitigate some of the exposure to some of these injuries,” Jones told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen after watching footage of the injury. Jones did not attend Friday’s practice.
