Busy day at Jets HQ.
Per Eric Allen of NewYorkJets.com, the team has signed coach Rex Ryan to a two-year contract extension and general manager Mike Tannenbaum to a five-year extension. Both are now signed thru 2014.
Ryan, who signed a four-year deal after being hired last season, took the NFL by storm. In his first season with the Jets, he transformed a team that had no identity to a “swaggerlicious” bunch that was 30 minutes away from the Super Bowl. Although not particularly raved about around the league, Ryan’s players love playing for him and it showed last year.
Tannenbaum was the Jets cap-wizard and assistant general manager before taking over Terry Bradway as the general manager in 2006. Known for his saavy deal-making and potentially great draft selections — D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold in 2006, Darrelle Revis and David Harris in 2007, Dustin Keller in 2008, Mark Sanchez and Shonn Greene in 2009 — Tannenbaum, who’s only 37, has quickly become an upper-echelon GM.
As long as this duo remains in New York together, the Jets will continue to put a winning product on the field.
