According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Tampa Bay Bucs have signed left tackle Donald Penn to a new six-year, $48 million contract, including nearly $20 million guaranteed. The team has also reached a contract agreement with defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, the third overall pick, on a five-year pact worth $63 million. McCoy will also receive $35 million in guaranteed money.

Penn was a restricted free-agent who initially refused to sign his one-year tender. He has started 44 games at left tackle for Tampa Bay and did a pretty good job last year — yielding only five sacks — considering how stagnant that Bucs offense was.

McCoy was Tampa’s first-round selection and will most likely start from day one. He’ll be paired next to second-round pick, defensive tackle Brian Price, forming a duo that should hold down the defensive trenches for years to come. McCoy and Price look to improve a run defense that ranked last in the league in 2009.

“We just finalized Donald Penn’s contract, we’re very excited about that,” Dominik said.  “On top of that, we agreed to terms with Gerald McCoy. We’re finishing up some language and paperwork. We’ve got a few things left.  I don’t know if he’s going to be able to make it out to practice this morning. We’re excited about having him for the afternoon practice. That should work out. So in that way, it’s a really good day, it’s a great day for the Bucs in terms of securing two players to long-term deals that can be really important to the organization.
