Brett Favre

If you haven’t heard this morning, a certain quarterback that plays for the Vikings is reportedly calling it quits.

According to multiple outlets, Brett Favre told his teammates and coaches that he plans to retire as his surgically repaired ankle isn’t up to snuff. He’s expected to issue a press release later today.

Like any football fan knows, Favre is notorious for changing his mind on a whim so it wouldn’t be shocking at all if he’s under center on week one. Also, I’m sure coach Brad Childress and the rest of the Vikings organization will be pleading on some level for him to return; their chances don’t look too good with Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson.

In fact, the miscommunication has already started. Sean Jensen, of the Chicago Sun-Times, is reporting that a high-ranking team official told him via text message that “nothing is definite” regarding the retirement.

Ultimately, nothing is official until Favre files the appropriate paperwork with the league. Until then, Favre Watch is on because, let’s be honest, we’ve all seen this movie before.

Stay tuned!

UPDATE: Childress told reporters that he has not been informed by Favre on whether he plans to retire or not.
