Incarcerated wide receiver Plaxico Burress could be re-joining Big Blue when he leaves The Big House.

According to the New York Post, Burress is expected to be released from the Oneida Correctional Facility in two to three weeks after his two-year sentence was reduced for good behavior. He’s currently serving time for felony gun possession.

Following his release, Plax will most likely join a work-release program until he finds out when he can return to the NFL; commissioner Roger Goodell is almost sure to suspended him following the 2008 incident in which he shot himself in the leg at a New York nightclub.

When he is eligible to sign with a team, Burress, who will be 33 on August 12, could return to the Giants. General manager Jerry Reese left open the possibility saying, “we’ll definitely investigate it.”

“When he first went in (prison) he was saying he thought he’d come back and be a good player, and I don’t doubt that at all because he’s that kind of athlete,” Reese said. “But in this game it’s hard to walk away for a couple of years and be the same person. But if anybody can do it, I think it’s him. So you never say never.”

UPDATE: According to the New York Daily News, the report on Plax’s release was called “premature” by his attorney. He still has a year remaining on his sentence.
