After getting absolutely obliterated on a busted play in Monday night’s preseason game against the Jets, the New York Football Giants’ star quarterback luckily avoided serious damage.
ESPNNewYork reports that Manning spent all of yesterday undergoing tests before receiving 12 stitches for the 3-inch laceration on his forehead. Although he rejoined the team today, Manning is uncertain if he can practice this week and his status is up in the air for Saturday night’s tilt with the Steelers.
“They haven’t given me an exact time frame of when I will be back but I have a feeling I might be out there this upcoming week trying to get these stitches healed up and my forehead healed,” Manning said. “I don’t know when I will be able to put a helmet on. I might have to bring out an old leather helmet to get some practice in this week because I don’t want to be sitting around doing nothing when I feel I can play.”
The injury might have looked severe but Manning felt good enough to go back in if needed once the bleeding subsided. He took full blame for the play and said Calvin Pace’s hit on him, although fierce, was not an example of “foul play.”
Up top, I’ve included a video of the aforementioned hit. Check out the bloody mess for yourself.
