There has been a good amount of news out of Minnesota today, so I’m going to try and tie it together in just one post.
First, in what is very encouraging news, wide receiver Percy Harvin returned to practice today just 24 hours after being hospitalized for collapsing on the field. He spent the time watching from the sidelines and chatting with his teammates. He won’t be traveling with the team to San Francisco for their game against the 49ers on Sunday.
Because of Harvin’s condition and fellow receiver Sidney Rice’s nagging hip, the team is working out a couple of free-agent WRs: Javon Walker and Brandon Jones. For now, Bernard Berrian and Greg Lewis are the Vikings’ starters.
Speaking of Rice, he declared that his status for the season opener is “up in the air” after testing his hip today. The team would be smart to sign Walker, Jones, or another receiver just for depth purposes until the unit is completely healthy.
Brett Favre, two days after re-joining the team, will start on Sunday. He’s slated to play a series or two, which will be good enough to shake the rust off, while the rest of the starters will play a quarter.
