Matt Leinart

One day after being labeled as the favorites for his services, the Houston Texans have landed quarterback Matt Leinart.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Leinart and the Texans agreed to terms on a one-year contract this morning. Leinart will undergo a physical, officially sign the contract, and join his new team later today. Terms of the deal are unknown.

Although he’s slated to be the primary backup to Matt Schaub, Dan Orlovsky will remain the number two until Leinart learns the playbook and gets comfortable with the offense. The team had an open spot at QB after they jettisoned John David-Booty on Saturday.

Leinart lucks out again with the weapons he has on offense. At one point, in Arizona, he had both Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to throw to. Now he has Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels to toss the rock to. Not a bad set of circumstances.

The former Heisman Trophy winner and first-round pick gets another chance to jump start his career. A change of scenery should do him some good.
