There’s no question who will be the Buffalo Bills’ feature back in Week One — and likely all season.

According to the Associated Press, coach Chan Gailey confirmed today that rookie RB C.J. Spiller has been named the team’s starter for Sunday’s opener against the Miami Dolphins.

Spiller, who was drafted ninth overall in April’s draft, is expected to receive the bulk of the carries, with the remaining going to Fred Jackson. Marshawn Lynch will likely resume a third-down role; he will be phased out of the Bills’ early-down plans.

This was a no-brainer move for Gailey. You don’t take a guy with game-changing talent in the top-10, pay him all that money, and have him sit on the bench.

Spiller, assuming he stays healthy, has a legit chance to put himself in consideration (along with San Diego’s Ryan Mathews) for the Rookie Of The Year award by season’s end.
