Gang Green’s number one receiver was arrested in New York last night.
According to the New York Post, Edwards and two other passengers were pulled over early this morning for a tint violation. An officer smelled alcohol on Edwards’ breath and decided to give him a Breathalyzer test.
He blew 0.16, clearly over the legal limit, and was taken into custody where he was charged with a DWI.
This is Edwards’ first alcohol related offense, but commissioner Roger Goodell still might impose a punishment. The league has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to drunk driving.
Stay tuned for more.
UPDATE: Although coach Rex Ryan and the Jets are “infuriated” over this incident, Edwards will be active for Sunday night’s game. However, he won’t be starting.
“In light of the facts as we have them, [coach] Rex [Ryan], [owner] Woody [Johnson] and I have decided he will not start,” Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. “He will dress, he will play at some point. When, we don’t know. This is an area we pour a lot of organizational resources into. We’re very disappointed in what happened.”
