One week after benching ineffective quarterback Trent Edwards, the Buffalo Bills are taking it one step further and shopping the former third-round pick.
Sources tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Bills have spoken to at least one team regarding a trade involving Edwards, who becomes expendable now that Ryan Fitzpatrick took over – possibly for good. Buffalo tried to deal Edwards during the offseason but were unsuccessful and eventually made it an open competition at quarterback.
Although coach Chan Gailey doesn’t place all the blame on Edwards – who threw a couple of picks and took seven sacks in two games – he hopes Fitzpatrick can provide some sort of a spark for an otherwise stagnant Buffalo offense. In 2009, the same switch was made at QB so Edwards is familiar with riding the pine.
Me thinks the Bills need to heavily invest in a quarterback in the offseason. Jake Locker, anyone?
