Quarterback Trent Edwards wasn’t unemployed for long – in fact, only one day.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed Edwards on waivers after he was released by the Bills yesterday afternoon. The waiver order went by team’s 2010 records, so the winless clubs had first dibs.
Detroit, San Francisco, Cleveland, and Carolina all chose not to put a claim in so Jacksonville gets their backup to the incumbent David Garrard. The Jags recently signed the 38-year old Todd Bouman to be the number two after Luke McCown tore his ACL, so Edwards is definitely a step up in that sense.
If Garrard continues disappointing this season, it wouldn’t be a shock to see coach Jack Del Rio call upon Edwards for a game or two. Jacksonville, much like (Edwards’ former team) Buffalo, desperately needs to find a franchise-level quarterback.
