After a brutal start to the season for Saints kicker Garrett Hartley, the team has decided to turn the job over to an old, familiar face.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Saints have re-signed kicker John Carney to a one-year contract. Both kickers, Hartley and Carney, are expected to remain on the roster, similar to last season.

Carney, who turned 46-years old in April, will handle the field-goal duties and other kicking responsibilities. He had latched onto the organization in a consulting role before being called upon today.

Hartley has been dreadful this year after a stellar 2009 campaign; he missed two field goals in Week 1, while shanking a potential chip-shot to win the game in overtime last Sunday.

The Saints are hoping Carney can bring some stability to top off their high-octane offense, and he should do just that. In his 22-year career, Carney’s connected on over 82% of his kicks and is a former All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler.
