Nick Barnett

The Green Bay Packers defense took another major hit tonight as they’ve lost their best inside linebacker for the season.

According to Adam Schefter, Nick Barnett is out for the year with a wrist injury he suffered in last Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions. Though he will seek a second opinion this week, the outlook looks grim and Barnett, in all probability, will need surgery.

Schefter compares the injury to the dislocated wrist Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher came down with in last year’s season opener. Urlacher needed surgery and was eventually placed on injured reserve.

Green Bay is fast becoming decimated by injuries. Aside from Barnett, starting safety Morgan Burnett tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season and veteran safety Nick Collins is bothered by a knee injury. It doesn’t stop there as linebacker Brandon Chillar has a shoulder injury that he’s going to get a second opinion on. And of course there’s running back Ryan Grant who was already placed on IR after hurting his ankle in Week 1.

The Packers better hope quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the offense can continue carrying the team because injuries on either side of the ball can quickly derail any potential Superbowl contender.
