With each passing week, the San Francisco 49ers are adding numbers to the right side of their win total. The bad side. At 0-5 and following a near comeback win against the Eagles on Sunday night, coach Mike Singletary’s seat is hotter than the Sun. Unfortunately for him, it looks as if there’s nothing he could reasonably to do avoid the pink slip.
Jason Cole, of Yahoo! Sports, reports that even if the Niners pull off their owner’s improbable prediction of winning the NFC West division, Singletary likely won’t retain his job in 2011. A team source tells Cole that “extraordinary” things will have to be done, like winning the remaining 11 games and a playoff game (or two).
Fat chance, right?
Even though York recently gave Singletary a vote of confidence, the only reason he might not have been canned already is because they don’t think there’s a viable replacement on the current staff. San Francisco might be willing to sacrifice the season if they believe they can find an outside candidate. Bill Cowher, perhaps? Slim chance, but you never know.
Aside from the 49ers close and often heartbreaking losses, the team has looked dysfunctional and even fired their offensive coordinator, Jimmy Raye, three games in.
Obviously, winning eleven straight – or enough to win the division – is certainty a daunting task for them at this point. My gut tells me Singletary’s squad will finish in the 6-10/7-9 range and all signs point to the Niners beginning their head coaching search in early January.

Love the title. And way to go Niners. You’ve managed to switch up yet aothe offensive coordinator.
By the way, are you the sole purveyor of this blog?
Their season had so much promise. Didn’t expect it to go down in flames like this.
Yes, I am. Thanks for checking us out!
