Even if they’re still missing their best wide receiver, the San Diego Chargers made sure to lock up their franchise left tackle.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Chargers and Marcus McNeill have agreed to a five-year contract extension. The new deal will be added onto the one-year, $630,000 tender he signed last month.

McNeill, who held out of training camp, is now signed through 2015, giving quarterback Phillip Rivers’ blindside some much-needed security. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, McNeill will step into the starting lineup against the Rams on Sunday, replacing the ineffective Brandyn Dombrowski.

As for Vincent Jackson, Schefter notes that the team has made no progress with him on a new contract and the receiver’s holdout could very well span the entire season. It looks as if there’s no resolution in sight there.
