With 48 hours to go until Week 6 gets underway, three of the NFC’s best teams have declared their high-profile signal callers will start for them on Sunday.
Starting in Philadelphia, the Eagles and coach Andy Reid have decided that Kevin Kolb, not Michael Vick, will start against the Atlanta Falcons. Vick has an outside shot to dress for the game, but it’s looking like he’ll be inactive. Kolb, trying to win back his job as the team’s number one, will go up against a very good front-seven of the Falcons and he’ll do so without left tackle Jason Peters.
If Kolb doesn’t want to spend the day on his back, he’ll try to establish the run early with RBs LeSean McCoy and the newly acquired Jerome Harrison before getting his wide receivers – DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin – involved.
Following the concussion that the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers suffered last Sunday at Washington, coach Mike McCarthy listed him as probable for Sunday’s home game against the Miami Dolphins. Practicing without limitation this week, Rodgers is fully expected to start and he should test Miami’s below-average secondary early and often.
Though Green Bay is dealing with a plethora of other injuries, the organization has to be breathing a huge sigh of relief that his injury wasn’t as bad as the one that caused Bears quarterback Jay Cutler to miss a week’s action.
Finally, in what is one of the most highly-anticipated games this weekend, Minnesota will have Brett Favre under center for the Vikings big home game against the Dallas Cowboys. Favre, aiming for his 290th consecutive start, has been officially listed as questionable by coach Brad Childress but is expected to be good to go.
Favre is dealing with elbow tendinitis, which obviously bothered him late in Monday night’s loss to the Jets. Although some reports said the tendinitis might cause him to sit out one or two games, local beat reporters are wagering their lives that the NFL’s Ironman will suit up. Like Kolb, Favre could be under duress for most of the game so he’d be wise to get RB Adrian Peterson going before taking shots downfield to receivers Randy Moss and Percy Harvin.
