With Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline approaching fast, some teams are expected to be busy working the phones and making deals. The Carolina Panthers won’t be one of those teams.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Panthers will not part ways with wide receiver Steve Smith “under any circumstance” and running back DeAngelo Williams isn’t up for discussion either.
One team has supposedly called about Smith and Carolina told them he’s not going anywhere. While he is having a down year by his standards, Smith is close to owner Jerry Richardson, who doesn’t believe in shipping off accomplished Pro Bowl players for draft picks.
Smith is under contract through 2012, while Williams is slated to hit free-agency after this season. Both of these elite talents will stay in Carolina and will work toward getting the team its first win in Week 7.
