Call it injury on top of insult. Two quarterbacks – Oakland’s Jason Campbell and Dallas’ Tony Romo – were both banged up in Week 6 action and will be checked out today to make sure it’s nothing serious.
Campbell reportedly told Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area that he hurt his knee in the first half of yesterday’s loss to the 49ers and will have an MRI done sometime today. Though it definitely could have bothered him during the game, as he looked awful behind center, Campbell hung in there until the end. If it was truly severe damage to that knee, one would think they would’ve pulled him in favor of Bruce Gradkowski.
Romo hurt his left thumb in the third quarter of the Cowboys’ loss to the Vikings and had it wrapped up and bandaged following the game, according to The Dallas Morning News. He’ll have an X-ray done today but doesn’t believe it’s anything problematic. He shouldn’t be affected at all, especially since it’s his non-throwing hand.
It’s easy to say both injuries are minor in nature but nothing definitive can be said until both players have all the appropriate tests done. We should know more by day’s end.
UPDATE: Romo never took an X-ray after all, as the team didn’t think the injury warranted one. Campbell’s MRI showed no structual damage.
UPDATE 2: Now Campbell tells CSN that he may have a torn meniscus in his left knee and is currently taking it day-to-day. More should be revealed later this week.
